Las 5 claves para escoger un MBA

Choosing an MBA is not an easy task. At the time of doing so, it is necessary to consider several aspects, such as academic quality, location in the "rankings," the networks of contacts that may be generated, the price and the level of internationalization of the program.

Having an MBA is a requirement to achieve an upward career in the business world. Where to do it is the question. To define which MBA is the most appropriate according to the personal or organizational interests, it is necessary to put on the balance varied criteria that are decisive to choose the institution that offers the program that adjusts to their needs.

Academic excellence

The first variable, and probably the most significant one, is the prestige of the program and the business school. This point includes the reputation of the university and its academic staff, which must be first class since they contribute their professional experience as directors or business consultants.

In this dimension you should investigate the faculty, both at the level of their qualifications (number of professors of the PhD plant of world-renowned universities) and their contact with the reality of businesses and organizations. This academic body is the one that will be able to translate the academy into practice. "An MBA that does not have this mix ends up being an undergraduate program, not a business program that allows men and women capable of leading innovative, ethical and sustainable organizations to be developed," explains Horacio Arredondo, director of the MBA at the University's Business School. Adolfo Ibáñez.

To this, the director of the MBA UC, Marcos Singer, adds the support given by some Chilean and foreign accreditations. "The UC MBA is accredited by the National Accreditation Commission of Chile. In the international field, the UC School of Management is accredited by EFMD-EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) and by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) ".

Networking
Another point to consider is whether the school includes a network of graduates. Doing an MBA provides the right environment to generate or expand the networking or network of contacts. Both students and teachers, companies, institutions and different organizations form a wide network of contacts that result in professional development opportunities for students.

Responding to this requirement is that some institutions have been concerned with having recognized characters in the business world, who make available their experience and professional career. Through them, it is possible to maintain a link with the world of companies and businesses. For Ismael Oliva, director of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Chile, "Not only should attention be paid to the ranking, but also to see factors such as the network of graduates from the school."

Ranking

When choosing an MBA, those interested should evaluate and compare the programs according to their location in the international and national rankings. The list of the British newspaper Financial Times, is the most consulted worldwide, and compares the diversity of students, the salary level of the graduates and the quality of the teaching staff.

If you are considering studying abroad, experts advise consulting the ranking of the best cities to study an MBA, according to a report by the Spanish business school Esade.

Prices

The economic costs of pursuing a program of these characteristics is also one of the keys to consider. The investment in a quality MBA is important and whoever is in the search for one must have the certainty of making the right decision. It is therefore important to evaluate a program that has an excellent price-quality ratio, and that has a policy of scholarships and payment facilities, says Claudio Thieme, director of the MBA at the Universidad Diego Portales.
